Thursday, 29 November 2007
Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) Chairman Dan G. Blair announced that Commissioner Mark Acton has been named Vice Chairman of the Commission, succeeding Dawn Tisdale, whose term of office ended this month. PRC regulations provide that the Commission elect a member to serve as Vice Chairman for a term of one year.
Vice Chairman Acton was nominated by President George W. Bush on November 7, 2005, and confirmed by the US Senate on August 3, 2006, for a term extending through October 14, 2010.
Prior to this appointment, Acton served as Special Assistant to the Chairman of the former Postal Rate Commission for four years. In addition to his tenure as a staff member at the PRC, he managed legislative and regulatory activities for the Republican National Committee Counsel’s Office as staff director. Acton’s extensive public administration background also includes direct mail marketing experience.
"I am pleased to serve as Vice Chairman as the Postal Regulatory Commission transitions to its enhanced oversight duties as mandated by the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act. My fellow Commissioners and I will continue our efforts to promote service, transparency, and equity," said Acton.
Vice Chairman Acton, who resides in Washington, DC, earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland and an undergraduate degree from the University of Louisville.
