John Costello, Former Home Depot Marketing Chief and DMA Board Member, Joins Aspen Marketing Services' Board of Directors

Aspen Marketing Services, one of the largest privately held marketing services companies in the United States, on Tuesday announced that John Costello, former executive vice president of merchandising and marketing of The Home Depot, has joined the company’s Board of Directors [as of September 1, 2006]. Costello, a former member of the Direct Marketing Association’s Board of Directors, has more than 25 years of marketing experience in consumer goods, retailing, services and technology.

Aspen Marketing offers fully integrated, best-in-class services such as direct marketing, event marketing, consumer promotions, public relations, Interactive, strategic planning and data analytics. The company specializes in market segments such as automotive, consumer-packaged goods, financial services, nonprofit, retail, technology and telecom.

At Home Depot, Costello held responsibility for the company’s merchandising, marketing, eCommerce and sourcing operations. In addition to repositioning the brand behind “You Can Do It. We Can Help,” he helped to increase direct marketing capabilities, improve in-store merchandising and implement several entertainment partnerships such as The Home Depot/Trading Spaces partnership as well as world class Olympic and NASCAR efforts.

Throughout his career, Costello has been involved in some of the most visible business turnarounds and been associated with some of the most successful marketing campaigns. Prior to Home Depot, Costello served as Chief Global Marketing Officer at Yahoo! He began his career at Procter & Gamble.

Named as one of the 30 Most Influential People in Marketing by Advertising Age and elected to the Retail Marketing Hall of Fame in 1997, Costello has been recognized by his contemporaries as a leading marketing professional.

Costello will serve on Aspen’s Board with Chairman Rich Aube and Bryan Martin, both of D.E. Shaw; Renny Smith, co-founder of GRS Partners; and Phillip Riese, formerly of American Express. Aspen’s CEO O’Rahilly and Chief Marketing Officer Cathy Lang also serve on the Board.
